DIY hanging shelf

This was the absolute perfect weekend project! It was cheap, quick and super simple. I'm the kind of person who collects lots of knick-knacks so I thought these cute DIY shelves were the perfect way to display my things.

You Will Need:

-wood (I used a 1x6 piece, and cut it into four 1.5' pieces) (Any lumber yard like Home Hardware, or Home Depot will cut it for you)

-string (I used .5cm cotton rope)

-metal harness rings (I used 1.5")

-sandpaper

-drill

-tape measure

-paint (optional)

Step 1:

Start by sanding down the wood. I didn't do too much sanding, more so along the edges where the wood was cut.

Step 2:

Personally, I loved the natural tones in the wood, so I decided to keep one shelf like that, and spray-painted the other white. I'd love to try another shelf in a fun colour like yellow or pink!

*I also spray-painted the metal rings white.

Step 3:

Drill four holes into each corner of the wood. Make sure to drill them large enough for a thick string to go through, as you'll need decent support for the shelf.

Step 4:

Attach the string to the metal ring, and feed through the holes of the shelf. Here I used a tape measure to get the sides roughly equal, but it's always easy to undo the knots and re-adjust as necessary.

Step 5:

Hang it and enjoy!!

Ps: If anyone tries this please be sure to send me a pic, and good luck!
