Easy DIY Halloween costume

Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year! I've always really enjoyed getting dressed up and going out. I always try to make my own costume. I find it's a lot cheaper that way, and gives you the freedom to add your own spin on a costume, PLUS it's always such a fun process. This year my roomate and I decided to dress up as trash...and I know what you're thinking, but we also managed to make it cute! It was such a fun, easy and cheap DIY costume.

Here's how we did it:

Step 1: Grab one large black garbage bag and cut a hole big enough to sit as a tube-style dress. I wore a tube top underneath and just tucked the edged of the garbage bag into it.

Step 2: Cut up the bottom of the dress to make it look more tattered and "garbage-esque" (haha).

Step 3: Use a glue gun to attach bits of garbage around the outside of the bag. We used candy wrappers, receipts, and other miscellaneous bits lying around the house.

Step 4: add the finishing touches! We cut a piece of orange rope and used it as a belt to make the garbage bag slightly more form-fitting...we still wanted to look cute after all. We also used grocery bags to tie bows in our hair and wore cut up tights.

The entire costume was made with things from around the house. The one bit we spent money on was the racoon puppet, which we ordered for $18 off of Amazon! If you opt out of that, it would be super easy to put together a costume costing you a total of $0!

Overall, the costume took us no more than 20 minutes to make! And we were a hit at the bar.
